The rocks on the mountain (that's the problem with problems)

THE ROCKS ON THE MOUNTAIN (D A D F G E)

That’s the problem with problems; they never go away. That’s the problems with sunlight; you only see it in the day. That’s the problem with pressure; it’s always in your face. The pressure gets better but it never goes away. That’s the problem with problems; you never see them clear. That’s the problem with people; they’re never really here. That’s the problem with asking, because no one really knows. That’s the problem with telling.

Deep in the night I lay quiet and still and a clear moon rises and shines through my door and when daylight comes on a route with no path, through jagged rocks and spreading mists, across red mountains and azure streams, into the sight of a pine, barefoot on the path, in water splashing and billowing winds, in light in brilliant disarray. And life is just so easy to love.

That’s the problem with problems; they never go away. That’s the problems with sunlight; you only see it in the day. That’s the problem with pressure; it’s always in your face. The pressure gets better but you never deflate. That’s the problem with problems; you never see them clear. That’s the problem with people; they’re never really here. That’s the problem with asking, because no one really knows. That’s the problem with telling.

That’s the problem with problems.

And life is just so easy to love.

Once I got everything I wanted

ONCE I GOT EVERYTHING I WANTED (E A D G B E)

Once I got everything I wanted and the world disappeared. I held my hands in front of my face. They looked so unattached. I tried to count the things I’d lost that would not come back.

Once I got everything I wanted I thought I was done. I sat so still I thought I was a rock and wondered why things were stale. I threw myself in the river but I didn’t sink. I just set sail.

Once I got everything I wanted I knew how wrong I’d been. And as long as I think I know. As long as I think I’m right. I’ll continue be disappointed because the great square has no corners. No corners. No corners.

The last time

THE LAST TIME (E A D G B E)

The words don’t come like I feel they should. If I was bad would you be good?

If I could cry. If I could ask. What would you think?

They’re singing now. I wish I was. Let’s sit outside. The sky is practically begging.

I’m looking out. Who’s looking in? Look what I found. It doesn’t mean anything.

If it was the first time that I got stung would you tell anyone?

This afternoon is so sweet it hurts. I’ll shut the blinds. I don’t want to know.

You go outside. Tell me what it’s like. Ask if the sky remembers my face.

If it was the last time the sun went down how pretty would it be?

As everyone comes out on the street. All our neighbours we didn’t take the time to introduce ourselves to.

And we’d say: Hi, it’s so nice to meet. What’s your dog’s name? No, we’ve got a cat. She’s an inside cat.

We're so boring

WE’RE SO BORING (E A D G B E, capo 5)

We’re so boring. We’ve got nothing to say. I’ve been snoring. You’re just fading away.

Every morning. Open up my eyes. Let the dawning take me by surprise.

We’re so boring. We’ve got nothing to do. But I’m not leaving because I’m in love with you. I’m in love with you.

I’m in love with you. I’m in love with you. I’m in love with you.

If I knew you'd die

IF I KNEW YOU’D DIE (D A D F# B E)

If I knew you’d die I wouldn’t have left.

I could wait all night. Holding my breath.

Flickers like a light. Glows inside your chest.

Written in the sky. It was only air.

Now the sky turns black. Where did everyone go?

You’re not coming back. How could I ever know?

I guess I’ll never really know.

If I knew you’d die.

Long steep descent

LONG STEEP DESCENT (E G# C# F# B E, capo 2)

Long steep descent. I know what you thought. I know what you meant.

In your head a universe is born. Another one explodes.

And I know what you meant.

Long steep descent. I don’t know where you’re from but I know where you went.

Cold cement in between your teeth. Filling up your head.

And I know where you went.

Long steep descent.

I don’t know where you’re from but I know where you went. Bending like a light, soaring through the air.

I don’t know what you want but I know what you meant.

From here to there

FROM HERE TO THERE (E A D G B E)

Out the window. Off the table. Over the fence. Through the branches. In the distance. Burning gently.

From the moonlight to the sunshine. Passing through us. Drawing circles from here to there. From here to there.

Looking everywhere

LOOKING EVERYWHERE (E A D G B E)

Looking everywhere I see less. Every choice I make is just a guess.

Looking around me. No one has found me. And I am drowning in a puddle.

Looking further only hurts more and I am still where I was before.

Looking everywhere I see less. Every choice I make is meaningless.

A while now

A WHILE NOW

It has been a while now. Do I remember how this all comes together? I’m sure I can work it out.

Come on baby tell me. What did you do wrong? I am here just waiting. Trying not to write a song.

I’ve been going surfing. I’ve been taking walks. I’ve been playing my mpc. I’ve been reading books.

Running out of time

RUNNING OUT OF TIME (tuning unknown)
